Faster grant payments for nonprofits
Beginning July 1, 2027, agencies must pay nonprofits, municipalities, and Alaska Native organizations within 45 calendar days after a correct request. If federal funds are used, the deadline is 45 days after the state receives the federal money or after your correct request, whichever is later. On July 1, 2028, the deadline becomes 30 days; with federal funds, it is 30 days after receipt of funds or your request, whichever is later. If payment is late, interest accrues at the rate in AS 45.45.010(a) starting on day 45 in 2027 and day 30 in 2028. If pay is withheld, the agency must give written reasons and fixes within eight working days. After you fix them, payment is due within 45 days in 2027 and 30 days in 2028, or interest applies. The homeland security and emergency management division is excluded but must make reasonable efforts to comply.
Faster payments for state contractors
Beginning July 1, 2027, state agencies must pay contractors within 45 calendar days after a correct invoice. On July 1, 2028, the deadline becomes 30 days. If payment is late, interest accrues at the rate in AS 45.45.010(a) starting on day 46 in 2027 and day 31 in 2028. If pay is withheld, the agency must give written reasons and required fixes within eight working days; if it fails to do so, interest runs from the eighth working day until a proper notice is sent. After you complete the fixes, payment is due within 45 days in 2027 and 30 days in 2028, or interest applies. Retainage is excluded. Public construction and certain listed agreements are excluded. The homeland security and emergency management division is excluded but must make reasonable efforts to comply.
Public website for state payments
The Department of Administration publishes a public, searchable website with contract and grant payments. It shows who was paid, the purpose, the amount, the date, and whether a payment was 30 or more days late. Key fields update monthly and other fields update yearly. The site keeps at least 10 years of records. Data are unaudited and sorted by agency and accounting details.
