Whittier can buy 84.8 acres of rail land

The law lets the Alaska Railroad sell about 84.8 acres of its surface land in five spots to the City of Whittier. Payment is at fair market value, and the Railroad can accept cash; valid existing rights on the land stay in place. The Railroad and the City must sign an agreement to do any needed surveys and plat work. That work may change the legal descriptions so the parcels can be conveyed. The legislature gives the required approval, and the authority takes effect now.
