Matching grants to build and renovate fire stations

Beginning July 1, 2026, the state runs a matching grant program to build or fix fire stations. The person in charge of an eligible station’s project can apply under rules the department sets. Grants cover up to 50% of a project’s total cost and are paid only if money is appropriated. A Fire Station Grant Fund holds the money; it does not lapse and can be spent without new approval. Each year, the department must spend at least 50% of the fund balance from June 30 of the prior year on these grants.
