Matching grants for fire station projects

Beginning July 1, 2026, the department runs a matching grant program to build or repair fire stations. The person in charge of an eligible station project can apply under department rules. The state pays up to 50% of a project’s proposed costs. Grants are paid only if lawmakers fund the program. A dedicated, non-lapsing fund holds this money, and the department can spend it for grants without another appropriation. Each year, the department must use at least half of the fund balance from the prior June 30 for these grants.
