Send your license info to Social Security verifiers

You or your designee can ask the motor vehicle department to send your driver’s license information to a verifier approved by Social Security. The verifier must be a nonprofit under 501(c)(3) or 501(c)(4), or a government or tribal entity. This helps confirm your license data for Social Security–related checks.

Stricter limits on license data sharing

The motor vehicle department may share only the data that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security requires to certify Alaska under the federal REAL ID law. It cannot send extra DMV data to outside databases for that purpose. It may share data with private companies only for the Social Security–approved driver’s license verification process.
