Stronger privacy for Alaska driver data

The law restricts the Department of Administration from sending driver license data to outside databases or systems unless it is needed to keep Alaska certified under the federal REAL ID Act. The department may share data with private companies only to run the driver license data verification process that this law authorizes. On your request, or your designee’s, the department must send your driver information to an SSA‑approved government, tribal, or tax‑exempt nonprofit (501(c)(3) or (4)) to verify your license data. The act takes effect immediately.
