Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

3 provisions identified: 2 benefits, 0 costs, 1 mixed.

Telehealth paid like in-person visits

Beginning January 1, 2027, health insurers pay providers for telehealth at least the same as in-person visits. Behavioral health is included. Municipal employee health plans, including self-insured plans, must follow this rule. Group plans the state buys for local governments, and the state’s self-insured plan for active employees, must also follow it. The law sets payment parity; it does not set your copays or premiums.

Cities can run health plans

Beginning January 1, 2027, Alaska cities and boroughs have clear power in law to set up and manage employee health plans under state rules. This lets local governments choose plan structures that fit their workforce.

Several 2022 state rules repealed

Beginning January 1, 2027, sections 9, 10, 13, and 14 of the 2022 session law chapter are repealed. Those 2022 rules no longer apply. The effect depends on what those sections previously required.
