Beginning October 1, 2026, the Franklin County Board of Education can request deeds to qualifying lands. Alabama's Department of Conservation and Natural Resources must transfer ownership to the board upon its request. This covers all indemnity lands in Walker and Fayette counties whose sole beneficiary is Franklin County schools. The law does not specify a payment or require a particular use for the land.
