How Arizona splits school tax money

The law sets the monthly order for sending certain state tax money to education. These dollars must add to, not replace, other school, university, and community college funding. $64,100,000 a year goes to basic state aid, paid monthly. Then 12% of the remaining monthly money goes to university technology and research, and 3% goes to community college workforce programs. Qualifying tribal colleges get one‑twelfth of their annual amount each month. The Department of Education gets one‑twelfth of $86,280,500 each month for higher basic aid costs. It also gets $7,800,000 a year for school safety and $200,000 a year for character education, paid monthly. Annual funding for accountability work is capped at $7,000,000. $1,500,000 a year goes to tutoring in failing schools. $25,000,000 a year is sent back to the state general fund to cover a tax credit. After these steps, the rest each month goes to the Classroom Site Fund. The law also clarifies what counts as a community college district and uses the existing definition of a qualifying Indian tribe.

Tax system upgrade funding through 2030

From June 30, 2022 through June 30, 2030, the Director transfers an amount he determines to the Department of Revenue’s Integrated Tax System project fund after earlier distributions. These transfers support the state’s tax system modernization during that period.
