New limits on Florida septage disposal

Beginning July 1, 2027, Florida’s environmental agency cannot issue or renew certain permits for disposing of septage, classified as Class B biosolids, on land. The ban applies when a qualifying permitted wastewater treatment plant is within 30 miles of the proposed land-application site. The plant must accept septage for higher treatment. It must be owned or operated by a federal or state government entity, or a Florida local government body. It must not be defunct, used for another purpose, or out of capacity.
