New deadlines for Florida discrimination lawsuits

Beginning July 1, 2026, the law sets deadlines for filing Florida Civil Rights Act lawsuits. You must sue within one year after the first of two events: Florida’s human rights commission finds reasonable cause to believe discrimination occurred, or the federal Equal Employment Opportunity Commission issues a Notice of Right to Sue. If neither happens within 180 days after you file your complaint, you can sue without waiting for either event. In that case, you must sue within 18 months after filing your complaint.
