Jefferson County caps inmate medical payments

The law caps payments for medical care and emergency medical transport for inmates in Jefferson County detention centers. The caps apply only when the provider has no county contract for those services. Medical care payments cannot exceed 110% of the Medicare allowable rate. The medical care cap is 125% for providers reporting a negative operating margin for the previous year. That report must use hospital-audited financial data submitted to Florida’s Agency for Health Care Administration. Emergency transport payments, including air ambulances and emergency medical vehicles, cannot exceed 110% of the Medicare allowable rate. Medical care charges at county-operated hospitals are exempt. The law took effect upon becoming law.
