Palm Beach contractors face revised licensing rules

Palm Beach County contractor and journeyman applicants must pass a written test for their certificate category, scoring at least 75%. The licensing board may allow oral tests for specialty contractors and journeymen. It sets test times and locations within the county; fixed exam limits and mandatory 60-day rescheduling rules are removed. After receiving a complete application and fee, the board reviews finances, credit, education, test results, experience, and business reputation. Its review also covers any business the applicant represents in contracting. Before receiving an active certificate, applicants must show proof of public liability insurance and a license bond, at board-set amounts. Separately, original-certificate applicants who fail to appear for examination within 60 days after notification must reapply and pay a new fee.
