New rules for Lee County tourism council

Beginning July 1, 2026, the Lee County tourism council has nine members, all appointed by the County Commission. The Commission chair, or a commissioner the chair picks, serves on the council. There are two elected municipal officials: one from the most populous city and one from the city with the highest tourist‑tax revenue; if they are the same city, the second seat goes to the next‑highest revenue city. Those two cities rotate every two years, and the municipal officials serve two‑year terms. Industry seats total six; at least three and at most four must be owners or operators of taxable lodging in the county. All members must be registered voters in Lee County. Current members finish their terms, except the two municipal members appointed July 1, 2013.
