Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

3 provisions identified: 2 benefits, 1 costs, 0 mixed.

Home and land fire assessment rates

Pace Fire Rescue District assesses residential property per dwelling unit. The residential schedule starts at $250 for up to 1,600 square feet, with a $350 total cap. Each square foot above 1,600 costs $0.13, down from $0.1544. Vacant land is assessed at $30.96. Unimproved acreage is assessed at $30.96 for up to 3 acres, plus $10.32 per acre above 3.

Qualifying churches avoid fire district charges

Pace Fire Rescue District cannot charge assessments to churches or religious institutions already exempt from value-based property taxes. Religious institutions without that tax exemption do not qualify. The law takes effect upon becoming law.

Business fire charges use total building size

Pace Fire Rescue District counts the combined size of all buildings and structures on each commercial or industrial parcel. Both schedules allow up to $500 for the first 2,500 square feet. Predominantly commercial property adds $0.13 per square foot above 2,500. Predominantly industrial property adds $0.13 per square foot above 2,500 through 40,000, then $0.05 per square foot above 40,000. The district must use county property classifications from the latest certified tax roll, following Florida's property-use code system.
