Plantation Acres voters decide city takeover

The law requires a stand-alone district election by October 1, 2026, paid for by the Plantation Acres Improvement District. Conversion requires approval by a majority of qualified district voters who vote. With that approval, the independent district ends and becomes a dependent district of the City of Plantation on October 1, 2026. Existing assets, debts, funding allocations, contracts, rights, and ongoing proceedings carry over to the dependent district. Current board members stay until the City Council and mayor take over their board roles. The district’s special laws become city ordinances, and existing policies remain until the city changes them. Following voter approval, beginning October 1, 2026, the independent district can only wind down and transfer its assets and liabilities. It cannot take on new debt, obligations, or liabilities.
