The Eastpoint Water and Sewer District board can inspect septic tanks within the district for compliance with their permits. The board can set reasonable penalties for violations. The law sets no penalty amounts and does not require every tank to be inspected.
The law schedules a district expansion vote for November 3, 2026, alongside the general election. Expansion requires approval by a majority of qualified voters in the proposed addition. The area includes Sections 15, 19–23, 28, and 30, plus Fractional Sections 27, 29, 31, and 32 in Township 8 South, Range 6 West. It also includes Fractional Sections 25 and 36 in Township 8 South, Range 7 West; Fractional Section 1 in Township 9 South, Range 7 West; and Fractional Section 6 in Township 9 South, Range 6 West. The law does not specify changes to household utility service, rates, or assessments.
The law also allows an expansion including all of St. George Island, subject to a utility agreement and voter approval. The district must first make an irrevocable agreement to acquire the island’s water utility. A majority of qualified voters in the proposed addition must approve. The vote is at the first general election after the agreement. If acquisition occurs within 120 days before a general election, the vote is at the second general election after acquisition. This expansion also includes Section 30 and Fractional Sections 29, 31, and 32 in Township 8 South, Range 6 West; Fractional Sections 25 and 36 in Township 8 South, Range 7 West; Fractional Section 1 in Township 9 South, Range 7 West; and Fractional Section 6 in Township 9 South, Range 6 West. The law does not specify changes to household utility service, rates, or assessments.
