Beginning July 1, 2025, Hawaii’s class C felony for false coffee-origin labels also covers roasted coffee, protecting more buyers. Green, cherry, and parchment coffee remain covered. The offense covers knowingly transporting, distributing, advertising, or selling falsely labeled coffee, or possessing it with intent to sell. Origin labels follow official tax-map boundaries for Hamakua, Hawaii statewide, Kau, Kauai, Kona (north and south), Maui, Molokai, and Oahu. Each act of false labeling counts as a separate offense, carrying a minimum $7,500 fine in addition to other penalties. Courts cannot waive or suspend that minimum fine.
