Registered pharmacy technicians can give FDA-authorized or approved vaccines to people age three and older under a pharmacist’s direct supervision. The pharmacist must order the vaccine based on federal vaccine recommendations. Technicians need approved hands-on training, professional certification, current basic CPR certification, and at least two hours of vaccine education each licensing period. They must submit proof of training to the Board, check vaccination records, give patients a record, and report details to the patient’s medical home within 72 hours and the state registry within five business days.
Pharmacy permits must be renewed every two years, with fees paid by December 31 of each odd-numbered year. An unpaid permit is forfeited. The holder can seek restoration within three years by paying required fees and meeting continuing education and Board requirements.
Beginning January 1, 2026, pharmacy technicians must register with the Board before doing technician work. Pharmacists-in-charge must check registration and display each certificate publicly. Technicians can do listed tasks only under a registered pharmacist’s direction and supervision; the pharmacist is responsible for their work. Pharmacists must report suspected technician violations within 10 days, or immediately when public health or safety is in danger.
