For judgments covered by Hawaii’s state-claims law, interest is limited to the period from the judgment date through 30 days after this act takes effect. Any claim funds that remain unspent and uncommitted expire at the close of business on June 30, 2026. This limits interest paid to judgment recipients and the time agencies can use remaining funds.
The law sets aside $7,023,343.07 from general revenues, $1,320,000 from the state highway fund, and $90,000 from judiciary funds for listed state claims in fiscal year 2024–2025. The Attorney General must approve each payment, and the amount paid may be less than the listed amount.
