Beginning January 1, 2026, drivers cannot park within 20 feet of a crosswalk or intersection, measured from the curb or edge of the vehicle travel way. The rule applies even without signs or curb markings. Exemptions cover emergency vehicles and official federal, state, or county vehicles on duty; stalled or broken vehicles and vehicles helping them; vehicles yielding to emergency vehicles; and parking otherwise allowed by law. A violation can bring a fine of up to $50, and each day is a separate offense. The state deposits these fines, school-zone speeding assessments, and Safe Routes to School surcharges into the Safe Routes to School special fund.
