New contact rules for unclaimed accounts

Beginning July 1, 2025, securities holders that do not send first-class mail must try email contact within two years of the owner's last sign of interest. They must promptly try first-class mail if email contact information is missing or invalid, delivery fails, or no reply arrives within 30 days. A security is presumed abandoned five years after that mailed notice is returned undelivered. For automatically renewable savings or time deposits, the law sets maturity at the initial maturity date plus one renewal. Deposits are presumed abandoned five years after maturity or the owner's last sign of interest, whichever is later.

Shorter first reports for unclaimed property

Beginning July 1, 2025, Idaho shortens the first-report lookback for property newly covered by its unclaimed-property reporting rules. Holders must include property that would have been presumed abandoned during the two years before July 1, 2024. This replaces the former seven-year lookback. Duties arising before July 1, 2024, remain subject to the earlier law, including its enforcement rules and penalties.
