Drivers can pass at higher speeds

Beginning July 1, 2025, eligible Idaho drivers can go up to 15 miles per hour over the posted limit while passing. This covers cars, motorcycles, and pickups only when they are not towing another vehicle. Drivers must use a designated passing lane to pass one or more vehicles traveling below the posted limit. The road must be posted at 55 miles per hour or higher and be outside an incorporated city. The allowance excludes construction zones, passing on the right, and passing by entering an opposing traffic lane. Drivers must return to the right-hand lane and slow to the posted limit as soon as practicable.
