Idaho state executives lose classified job protections

Beginning July 1, 2025, Idaho division administrators and executive employees lose job protections tied to classified status. Executive employees include appointees at bureau chief level or higher. Other covered managers must lead a department, division, or bureau, direct at least two employees, and exercise independent judgment. They must also have hiring or firing authority, or make recommendations that carry weight. Idaho's human resources administrator makes final designations and may allow exceptions consistent with federal law.
