Electronic and out-of-state title proofs accepted

Beginning July 1, 2026, the department can let people send required title documents electronically instead of paper. An authenticated electronic signature counts the same as an original. Once accepted, these electronic documents are treated like originals in hearings and court. If your vehicle was titled outside Idaho, you can use that state’s title, a bill of sale, an electronic motor vehicle record, or other legal proof from that state. A VIN inspection is still required for out‑of‑state vehicles.

Idaho dealers must release liens fast

Beginning July 1, 2026, when an Idaho‑licensed dealer is the lienholder and the lien is paid, the lienholder must tell the Idaho Transportation Department within 10 business days after receiving verified funds. If the lienholder holds a paper title and the current owner authorizes delivery to the dealer, the lienholder must send the paper title to the dealer within 10 business days. Verified funds means the money is credited to the lienholder’s account and is final.
