Heritage Trust loses copyrighted plate payments

Beginning July 1, 2026, the Idaho Heritage Trust stops receiving 50 cents per plate for the copyrighted red, white, and blue design. These payments came from the plate manufacturing account. Ending this payment does not establish a cut in vehicle registration charges.

New America250 plates with optional fees

Beginning July 1, 2026, Idaho vehicle owners can choose America250 plates, subject to Transportation Department approval and rules. Vehicles must qualify for special plates and have a registered maximum gross weight no higher than 26,000 pounds. The added fees are $35 initially and $25 for each yearly renewal, on top of regular registration fees. Each fee sends $10 to the state highway account; the Heritage Trust gets $25 initially and $15 per renewal. Sample plates cost $30: $10 goes to the highway account and $20 to the Trust.
