Idaho lawyers must pay license fees before practicing and no later than February 1 each year. This also covers people holding themselves out as practicing law, but excludes state and U.S. judges of Idaho courts of record. For active members and house counsel, admission-year fees depend on admission before or after July 1. In 2025, those fees are $175 before July 1 and $115 after July 1. Fees are $320 annually for the next three calendar years after admission, then $425 annually after the third full year. Beginning in 2026, those four fees rise to $200, $130, $350, and $485, respectively. Inactive and emeritus members pay $150 in 2025 and $170 annually beginning in 2026. For active members, house counsel, inactive members, and emeritus members, lower fees apply each year after the calendar year of their 72nd birthday. Those fees are $70 in 2025 and $80 annually beginning in 2026. Senior members also pay $70 in 2025 and $80 annually beginning in 2026. The Bar's board administers revenues for Bar operations, local bar associations, legal education, public relations, and a clients' assistance fund. A separate member assessment funds the clients' assistance fund, capped at $20 per member annually. The board administers that fund under Idaho Supreme Court-approved rules. All money the board receives and spends requires an annual audit by a certified public accountant. The law took effect upon passage and approval under an emergency clause.
