Idaho ends capital case defense fund

Beginning July 1, 2026, Idaho ends the Capital Crimes Defense Fund. The law repeals the statute that authorized this state fund for defense in death penalty cases. Public defense offices must use other funding or change how they pay for those cases. Most households are not directly affected.
