Governor appoints, Senate confirms key directors

Beginning July 1, 2026, the Governor appoints the directors of Transportation, Fish and Game, and Parks and Recreation. The Idaho Senate must confirm these appointments. Directors serve any term set in law, or else at the Governor’s pleasure. The Transportation director must have knowledge and experience in transportation. The Parks director is an ex officio board member, the board’s secretary, and its administrative officer. A director appointed on or before July 1, 2026 is considered for Senate confirmation at the first regular session of the 69th Idaho Legislature. Appointments made before the law takes effect are not subject to these new rules.
