Idaho broadens its energy revenue rules

Beginning July 1, 2026, Idaho renames the Renewable Energy Resources Fund as the Energy Resources Fund. Qualifying renewable resources include geothermal, wind, solar, and other sustainable energy resources. Counties where these resources are developed receive 10% of federal-land receipts; the fund receives the remaining 90%. Each county's share follows its portion of statewide receipts, and county money can support roads or public schools. For federal oil, gas, and mineral receipts, the split is 10% to source counties and 90% to the public school income fund. The energy fund also receives Federal Power Act payments for federal land use and other money approved by lawmakers. Interest stays in the fund. Lawmakers must approve spending, and the Office of Energy and Mineral Resources administrator can use it for the office's authorized work.
