State budget cuts for FY2026

The law cuts $192,656,100 from state budgets for July 1, 2025 through June 30, 2026. Cuts span education, health and welfare, corrections, and public safety. Agencies now have less money to run programs and staff during FY2026.

Fewer state job slots in FY2026

The law reduces approved state job slots by about 101.05 FTE for FY2026 (July 1, 2025–June 30, 2026). Examples: Youth Safety and Permanency -12.00 FTE; Children’s Mental Health -12.13 FTE; Department of Correction -11.50 FTE; Idaho State Police -4.00 FTE. Agencies must follow these limits. The Governor can restore positions and must promptly notify the Joint Finance‑Appropriations Committee.

School funds moved to general fund

The State Controller transfers $22,366,500 from the Public School Income Fund to the General Fund for FY2026. This move reduces school income fund dollars for that year. Public School Support drops by the same $22.37 million: Teachers $5.66 million; Administrators $1.81 million; Operations $14.89 million. The transfer happens as soon as practical during FY2026.
