Fewer state jobs in FY 2026

For FY 2026, the state lowers the number of authorized positions in many programs. Examples include: Youth Safety and Permanency (−12.00 FTE), Children’s Mental Health (−12.13 FTE), Department of Correction (−11.50 FTE), and Division of Medicaid (−2.00 FTE). Agencies need the Governor’s okay to exceed these limits and must notify the budget committee if they add jobs.

Statewide funding cuts for FY 2026

For FY 2026 (July 1, 2025–June 30, 2026), the state reduces many agency budgets. Section 1 lists dollar cuts by program and fund. Public School Support alone is reduced by $22,366,500. Health, welfare, public safety, colleges, and natural resource programs also face lower funding. Families who use these services may see fewer services or delays.

School funds moved to General Fund

During FY 2026 (July 1, 2025–June 30, 2026), the State Controller transfers $22,366,500 from the Public School Income Fund to the General Fund as soon as practicable. This lowers cash available for K–12 that year and can pressure school budgets or services.
