2026-27 funding for Idaho lands

The law provides $2,724,200 to the Idaho Department of Lands for July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2027. It funds business services, forest management, trust land management, fire protection, and minerals and oil and gas work. The Department must send $145,000 from the Department of Lands Fund to the Idaho Geological Survey. These funds are only available for that year.

More budget flex for wildfire protection

The Department of Lands can move unlimited funds into the Forest and Range Fire Protection Program. This applies to money appropriated for July 1, 2025 through June 30, 2026 and for July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2027. The usual transfer cap does not apply in those years.

Bonuses only for qualified firefighters

Firefighters can get General Fund bonuses only if they hold an incident qualification card with an operational qualification. The Department of Lands must report all 2026 fire-season bonus awards by January 5, 2027.

2026-27 personnel funding cuts

For July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2027, the law cuts Department of Lands personnel funding by $307,200. It removes $147,200 from the Endowment Earnings Administrative Fund under Business Services and $160,000 from the Department of Lands Fund under Minerals, Public Trust, Oil and Gas. The cuts apply only to that fiscal year.

2025-26 staffing money changes

For July 1, 2025 through June 30, 2026, the law adds $284,900 for personnel costs. It includes $124,900 from the General Fund for Forest and Range Fire Protection and $160,000 from the Navigable Waterways Fund for Minerals, Public Trust, Oil and Gas. It also cuts $160,000 from the Department of Lands Fund for personnel costs in the Minerals, Public Trust, Oil and Gas Program. These changes only apply to that fiscal year.
