The law protects you when you use a work-issued device to record domestic, sexual, gender, or other violent crimes against you or a household member. Your employer cannot fire you, refuse to hire you, cut your pay, harass you, or otherwise retaliate because of that recording. They also cannot take away the work device solely for that reason. You can get access to photos, videos, audio, and other digital files on the work device that relate to the crime.
The law still lets employers follow investigations, court orders, or subpoenas for devices or data. You must still follow reasonable workplace policies and perform the essential duties of your job.
