Beginning July 1, 2026, the Illinois Criminal Justice Information Authority must publish crime data statewide. It posts the data on its public website by September 1, 2026 and every four months after. For each law enforcement agency, it lists counts of homicides and aggravated assaults with a firearm. It also shows how many of those cases are cleared by arrest. It reports cases closed for other reasons and the reason: suspect deceased, prosecution declined, suspect held in another jurisdiction, or other exceptional reasons. The data comes from the Illinois State Police. Starting July 1, 2026, the State Police must send the data or give the Authority web access.
