The law creates the Commission on Youth Sports. It gathers community input and advises the Governor, lawmakers, and Human Services. The focus is safe, fair, and lasting access to sports for kids statewide. It must promote coach training, connect funding partners, and support inclusion for youth with disabilities and from disadvantaged communities. This Act ends on December 31, 2028 unless renewed.
Members include legislators, a representative from the Governor’s Office, and Governor‑appointed experts. Seats cover nonprofit sport leaders, youth equity experts, adaptive sports, school coaches, a parent, a coach trainer, and a school athletic or PE rep. If more than four legislators serve, seats must be balanced by party in each chamber. The Governor picks the chair. Terms last two years and may be staggered.
Human Services provides support and may use a third party; it may delay this if no third party is found. The first meeting happens within 90 days after all appointments, then at least quarterly. A report is due by December 31, 2025, and every year after. Members get no pay. Expense reimbursements, including travel, are allowed only if funds are appropriated and must follow travel control board rules.
