Appointments must be made within 30 days after this Act takes effect. The Task Force starts meeting no later than 30 days after all members are named. The Illinois State Police provides administrative support. Hearings can be closed when topics are sensitive or classified.
The law creates the First Responders Suicide Task Force. It develops ways to lower suicide risk and rates for first responders. Members include the State Police and Public Health directors or designees; lawmakers from both parties; and groups for police, firefighters, sheriffs, Chicago police and fire, mental health, and 911 telecommunicators. One House and one Senate member serve as co-chairs.
The Task Force must file a final report to the General Assembly by December 31, 2026. The group ends one year after it files the report. The statute creating the Task Force is repealed on January 1, 2027.
