If you are 18 or older, you can buy up to 100 sterile syringes or needles per sale at a pharmacy. Sales happen only from the pharmacy department, and items are kept under pharmacist control. If the pharmacy has them and you need them to use your medicine, the pharmacist sells them based on professional judgment. The pharmacist should also offer counseling or referrals. This has been in effect since August 9, 2019.
The law limits sales or delivery of syringes and needles to named professionals and permit holders. These include pharmacists, doctors, dentists, vets, embalmers and suppliers, wholesalers, manufacturing pharmacists, and industrial users. Nurses with a written order, registered chiropodists, and hospital employees with a written order may also receive them. The law also allows use for livestock care by the owner, scientific research, and needle access programs (staff, volunteers, and participants). This has been in effect since August 9, 2019.
