The law requires timely parent-child visits. Canceled or postponed visits are rescheduled quickly. Visits take place in a comfortable, family-like setting when possible. DCFS provides or arranges transportation help when needed for meetings and visits. All of this follows State law, DCFS rules, and court orders.
You must be treated with dignity and respect. DCFS cannot use your financial situation to remove your child or to deny reunification. You are consulted on your child’s hair care plan unless it goes against the child’s wishes. You are protected from retaliation when you assert your rights. State law, DCFS rules, and court orders still apply.
DCFS gives you a copy of this Act when your case opens or at your first contact. You are encouraged to help create and change your service plan, and you can request plan changes or a child and family team meeting. DCFS must give you the supervisor’s contact, answer your messages on time, and set meetings so you can attend. You are notified and invited to medical and school meetings, and you can talk with the substitute caregiver when feasible. All of this follows State law, DCFS rules, and court orders.
If placement is needed, DCFS consults you about placing your child with relatives. If you are a non-custodial parent, DCFS assesses and considers you for custody before taking protective custody.
