High school credit for 7th-8th graders

Beginning July 30, 2015, a school board with grades 9–12 may let 7th or 8th graders take a required high school class that their future high school offers. The student can take it at the high school if no high school student loses a seat, take it at the middle school and pass both the class and the high school’s end‑of‑course exam, or take it from a teacher with a professional educator license for that grade and subject. When a board adopts this policy, it must give high school credit for any such class the student completes, and the credit counts toward graduation requirements. If the student transfers, the new district must accept the credit unless it has evidence the course did not meet high school‑level Illinois Learning Standards. The student’s grade from the class counts in GPA under the board’s rules.
