Most health plans cover Klinefelter testing

Beginning January 1, 2027, health plans issued, renewed, amended, or delivered on or after that date must cover a karyotype or hormone test to diagnose Klinefelter syndrome. This applies to individual and group policies, managed care plans, and HMOs. State, county, municipal, and school employee plans must also provide this coverage. Voluntary health services plans must follow the same rule. The Department of Insurance enforces most plans, and Central Management Services enforces parts of state employee plans.

Limited plans cover testing only if listed

Limited health service plans must follow the coverage rule only when the test is part of the plan’s defined limited services. They are not required to cover services outside that limited scope. People in these plans may get coverage, but only if the test is listed in their plan.
