The law creates a Health Care Workforce Task Force at the Department of Public Health. Members include agency leaders, four lawmakers, and Governor-appointed reps of physicians, nurses, hospitals, labor, long-term care, allied health, a nursing school, emergency physicians, and federally qualified health centers. Appointments are due within 120 days after the law takes effect. The Task Force meets first within 160 days, elects two co-chairs from the legislative appointees, and holds at least four meetings. The Department of Public Health provides staff support, and the Department of Financial and Professional Regulation must provide data quickly. The Task Force reviews laws and workforce data, and recommends how to recruit, train, and keep workers. It also addresses barriers for underrepresented groups, inclusion of foreign-trained professionals, better access to the right level of care, and ways to reduce workplace violence. It must get input from stakeholders and people with lived experience. A report with recommendations is due within one year after the first meeting.
Task Force members serve without pay. The Task Force and this Act end on December 31, 2027. After that date, the Task Force has no authority.
