Illinois Board of Dentistry created

The law creates a 13-member Illinois Board of Dentistry, appointed by the Secretary. The board oversees licensing and other matters involving dentistry under the Act. It meets at least quarterly and can act by resolution at regular or special meetings. Members receive a set payment for each day of board work, get expenses repaid, and have legal immunity for good‑faith duties. This section is set to be repealed on January 1, 2026.

Rules for dental board members

The board includes 10 dentists and 2 dental hygienists, each with at least five years of experience, plus 1 public member. At least one dentist holds a permit for moderate sedation, and at least one holds a permit for deep sedation and general anesthesia. Dental school officers and deans, and dental hygiene program directors, cannot serve on the board. Faculty cannot examine applicants from their own school; hygienists do not examine dentist applicants; the public member does not examine any applicants. Members serve four-year terms, and no one may serve more than two full terms.
