Cities and towns can place public-safety gear on State or local government utility poles and rights-of-way. Gear must stay out of the worker safety zone and electric supply zone and meet all building, electrical, and local safety codes. State agencies or local governments can set permit rules for the poles and rights-of-way they own. Owners must charge municipalities their lowest rate and no more than their costs. The law does not allow use of poles or property owned by public utilities.
