Silver Search for adults with dementia

The law creates Silver Search for adults 21 or older with Alzheimer’s or similar dementia who go missing. ISP and a Silver Search Task Force build a statewide toolkit, standards, and training. The Task Force starts within 90 days, meets at least twice a year, and files a report by June 30 each year. ISP must finish the toolkit by July 1, 2017. Outreach to police, care sites, and the public must begin by January 1, 2017, if funded. ISP provides administrative and technical support.

Statewide alerts for high-risk missing people

The Illinois State Police run a statewide alert for high‑risk missing people. Alerts go out when a case meets the law’s high‑risk standard. The AMBER Plan Task Force oversees the system, reviews procedures and budgets, and builds network resources. The Child Safety Coordinator also serves as the Endangered Missing Person and Silver Search Coordinator. The State runs outreach to health care, nursing homes, and senior centers, with rules to keep health details private. ISP provides technical help using current resources.

Outreach for missing people with disabilities

Subject to funding, ISP and the Department of Human Services run outreach to developmental disability facilities and groups. The program promotes the Endangered Missing Person Advisory for people with developmental disabilities. It includes privacy rules so alerts do not share specific health details.
