State help for city traffic and carpools

The Illinois Department of Transportation can create and coordinate programs for driver education and traffic safety. It can advise other state agencies. It helps counties, cities, and towns with planning, traffic flow, and light timing. It can support carpool lanes and carpool parking to move traffic faster and safer.

Traffic studies after deadly pedestrian crashes

The Illinois Department of Transportation must study any crash that kills a pedestrian at a State highway intersection. The study looks at road design, traffic signals, and other fixes to cut crashes. It finds trends and patterns, including for pedestrians and bicyclists. The Department coordinates with other relevant agencies or groups. Results are posted on the Department’s website and shared with the public on request.
