Statewide medical emergency plans and teams

The law requires the Department of Public Health to create and run two statewide plans: a Public Health and Emergency Medical Plan and an Emergency Medical Disaster Plan. The plans help ambulance crews and hospitals work together. They provide backup when local care is overwhelmed, including public health emergencies defined in Section 4 of the Illinois Emergency Management Agency Act. The Department can name lead hospitals in each emergency medical services region to coordinate resources and transfers. It can also organize volunteer medical response teams that deploy to help communities. When building these plans, the Department works with the partners listed in Sections 2310-50.5 and 2310-620 of the Public Health Powers and Duties law.
