The law repeals two state ethics gift rules (K.S.A. 46-237 and 46-237a). It removes past limits on gifts, meals, travel reimbursements, and free or discounted tickets. Covered people include state officers and employees, candidates, and officers-elect. It also covers the governor, lieutenant governor, the governor’s spouse, members of executive boards and commissions, and legislators. These people may accept items that were restricted before. The public loses those specific statutory safeguards against undue influence.
