From May 15 to July 25, 2026, cities and counties cannot cap short‑term rental permits. They also cannot limit how long you can rent during this window. For completed applications filed in this period, they must answer in 15 days. If they do not, your permit is approved and no extra conditions apply then.
From June 11 to July 20, 2026, cities or counties may opt into longer alcohol hours. In those places, licensed sellers can sell 6:00 a.m. to 5:00 a.m. the next day. The clerk must send the local law to the Alcoholic Beverage Control director.
From May 15 to July 25, 2026, more short stays are taxed as transient guest stays. Hotels, motels, tourist courts, rooms in a home, and whole homes are covered. A guest with a contract for more than 28 straight days is not a transient guest. The state also repeals K.S.A. 12-1692; hosts should check the updated rules.
