Beginning July 1, 2027, the state provides key tests at school. Grade 11 and 12 students get a nationally recognized college entrance exam. Grade 9 students get a pre‑college exam. Grade 11 students get career readiness assessment(s) that can lead to a national credential. Families do not pay fees for these statewide exams or assessments. The board is not required to give more than one exam and three assessments per student. Taking the pre‑ACT, ACT, or ACT WorkKeys is optional. Each year, the state education department and every district post test dates, times, locations, and how to register on their websites.
Beginning July 1, 2027, Kansas repeals two older testing rules. The state board may provide the required college entrance and career readiness exams using any provider, not just one named company.
Beginning July 1, 2027, the state board sends a report before each regular legislative session. It shows combined exam and assessment data for students who were provided the statewide tests under this law. The report goes to the Senate and House education committees.
