The law validates the May 21, 2024 election in USD 200, Greeley County. The school board can issue up to $4,600,000 in general obligation bonds. Money can fund construction and upgrades, like safety, ADA fixes, playgrounds, locker rooms, a gym, and other related work, plus issuance costs and interest during construction. Bonds are repaid from the district’s bond debt service. Homeowners may see higher property taxes, while students may see school repairs and upgrades.
The law sets timing and notice rules for local bond elections. Officials must call an election within 60 days, or 90 days if it includes a general election date. Notices must run twice in a local newspaper and be posted on the county election website at least 21 days before. Elections use usual polling places and normal election officers. The act also repeals the prior version of K.S.A. 10-120 as part of these updates.
